Is there a project that covers these pre-1700 people?

I want to contribute to the deep genealogy on our shared tree. Here are people I can add, along with dates and locations:

Ann Fabin born 1724 in North Carolina who married Peter Edward Batson, Sr (1718-1761).  They had two sons - Peter Batson, Jr (1746-1822) and Thomas Batson, St (1749-1822).  Her file is Fabin-17.

I would like to add her father as Andrew John Fabin (abt 1696-Jun 1762).  There is a current file for him Fabin-18.

His will states his grandsons by name but does not name is daughter.  In all my reading, it appears he had a first wife who died at the birth of Ann.  His second wife Susannah Hanby (1690-1742) was the widow of Thomas Batson (1684-1725).

Here are the sources I am using:

Will of Andrew John Fabin: “In the name of God Amen! I, Andrew John Fabin, of New Hanover Co. Province of state aforesaid, being weak in the body, though sound of mind & memory, blessed be to God, do make, ordain and dictate, this to be my Last Will and Testament, in manner and form following: First: I bequeath my soul unto the hands of Almighty God, hoping and believing in a purification of my sins, by merit and meditation of Jesus Christ; and my body I commit to the Earth, to be buried at the discretion of my executors, hereafter named, and my worldly estate I give and bequeath as hereafter directed: I give and bequeath to my brother Paul Fabin, twelve pence sterling money to be paid …? I give to my grandsons, to wit, Joseph and Jeremiah Alexander, one cow and calf each. I give to my granddaughter, Susannah Beezeley, six pounds sterling money. I give to my grandson Peter Batson, one sorrel mare, branded ?, and also my bridle and saddle and guns. I give and bequeath and devise unto my grandson Thomas Batson and his heirs forever, the plantation whereon I now live, containing 100 acres more or less, provided nevertheless that my grandson John Beezeley shall live on the said plantation during the term of 9 years from date hereof, with only the yearly interests, the said John Beezeley to pay his majesties receiver fees, and keep the house repaired, and then at the expiration of 9 said years, to belong solely to Thomas Batson and his heirs. I give and bequeath to my grandsons, to wit, Peter and Thomas Batson, in equal ? between all and singular, the remainder of my estate, that is to say, the stock of all kinds, my household furniture, and movable where they are found. Lastly, I recommend, appoint, and constitute, my good friends, Ezekiel Alexander and John Beezeley, executors of my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have herewith set my hand and seal, this 12/28/1761.” (S) Original will in Book E, P24, in the Dept. of Archives and History at Raleigh, NC

Should I contact one of the pre-1700 projects or know about any style guidelines before proceeding? Thank you!

Would this source be considered adequate?

I just did some quick research on FamilySearch and Ancestry and I was unable to find sources for Ann or her father.

Please do not add parents yet. ONLY use the source on the profiles that are mentioned in the will.

Thank you!

Hello Grace,

Great find! The profiles are not pre-1700, except the parents, and none are project protected. So you may use the will as a source for the profiles.

If you have any other primary sources like birth sources, then that would also be very beneficial for the profiles, since they have no sources or definite dates. If you need help sourcing, please feel free to ask. I am here to help.

Thank you for sourcing!

I think the pre-1700 comes in for this bit:

I would like to add her father as Andrew John Fabin (abt 1696-Jun 1762).  There is a current file for him Fabin-18.

Yes, that is why I added “except the parents.” wink

It can be awkward doing pre-1700 profiles when not a member of any project -- and the message always says to ask for advice (even if most of the time people don't notice it until after they have made their edit/s):

Pre-1700 Requirement: If you're not already coordinating with a project and familiar with applicable style rules click here: ASK FOR ADVICE

However, wills are acceptable sources for pre-1700 and she is pre-1700 certified. So she is good to add the profile(s) and source them. smiley

Absolutely, she did the right thing by asking.
umm ... I'm scratching my head about this answer and comments.  I agree that the will is an excellent source for profiles.  In this particular case, the will is a good source for relationships between Andrew John Fabin and several other people, not including a daughter named Ann.  Although it does mention two grandchildren who are connected to Ann's profile as her children, Ann's profile is effectively unsourced (the only sources are a gedcom and an ancestry family tree), as are the profiles of her husband and one of their sons.  The other son's profile is well sourced, but the sources do not include establishment of his parents' identities.  As a result, the parent-child relationship between these two sons and their mother is not sourced, therefore the parent-child relationship that was asked about is not established by this will, even indirectly.

That is why I said this:

“ If you have any other primary sources like birth sources, then that would also be very beneficial for the profiles, since they have no sources or definite dates. If you need help sourcing, please feel free to ask. I am here to help.”

How can I verify the validity of a find a grave page/grave marker?  I am not the manager for either page and will work to help flesh out their sources. Here is the link for the grave marker/find a grave page. The author is not accepting messages so I cannot reach out to her to gather more info.

That is a new stone, so you definitely need more information like where did all that information come from? If the manager is not answering, then you need to do the research yourself. When I did a quick online search for any birth, marriage or death records, unfortunately nothing more came up for anyone close to Ann or her parents.

Just for research purposes, here is his actual will: Andrew John Fabin will on Ancestry
