Research Notes

Documents relative to her birth have not been found. What we know is that she was 23 when she died in 1864, that she shared one pair of great grandparents with her husband Donat, and that she lived in Scoudouc.

There were probably many Melanson families in the Scoudouc area at the time of her birth. The 1851 Census lists 19 Melanson families in the Shediac Parrish of Westmoreland County. One of those families is listed as follows: MELANSON Frank M H 35 Mary F W 45 Andrew M S 14 Marciline F D 10 Nattalie F D 7 Ogile F D 5 Julien F D 3 Collite M S Inf

This could well be the family of Francois Melanson and Marie LeBlanc. If so, this would be the first recorded evidence of Marcelline.

Inconsistencies : - the age of the parents is off; recorded baptisms give their age in 1851 as 39 and 35 respectively;

Consistencies: - age of Marciline is about right; - grandparents of Marie LeBlanc include Simon LeBlanc and Marie-Madeleine Richard; these are also great grandparents of Donat LeBlanc (explaining 3rd degree consanguinity); - Francois and Marie had a son Andre born around 1836, a daughter Angele born 1845; corresponds closely with Andrew and Ogile. Andre married Donat's sister in 1866.
