Biography

John McConachy was born 17 December 1815. He was the son of Thomas McConachy and Margaret McComb.

In around 1838 John McConachy married Jane McGuinnes in County Londonderry, Ireland.

John and Jane, and two children, Mary aged 3, and David aged two, arrived in Australia at Port Phillip Bay, Port Phillip District, New South Wales onboard the Catherine Jamieson on 22 October 1841.[1]

John and Jane had an additional two children in Australia, Margaret Jane born and died 1844, and Margaret Isabella born 1847.

John passed away on 20 March 1862.[2] At this time he was the owner and publican of the Rising Sun Hotel, Hotspur, Colony of Victoria and died of a heart attack.[3]An inquest was held into the cause of his death.[4]
