Biography

Thomas Jr. was born in Berry Pomeroy, Devon in 1800 to parents Thomas Sr. and Elizabeth. At some point he moved to Bodmin, Cornwall to work in the wool mills.

He married Jenny/Jane Nicholls Sept. 23, 1821 with both their fathers as witnesses and they had 11 children.

He was a cordwainer (a shoemaker who makes new shoes from new leather unlike a cobbler who was restricted to repairing shoes) when his first son was born but he soon was with the R.C. Militia as a bugler.

"Extract from Pigot’s Directory of Cornwall, 1830 (pages 135‐136) Bodmin and Wadebridge" lists Thomas Jago as a wool stapler.

By 1841 he was a wool comber and then a stapler (a person who buys wool from a producer, grades it, and sells it to a manufacturer). By 1871 at the age of 71 he is listed as a gardener.

He died June 20, 1884 when he was living in a union workhouse. He is buried at Lady Huntingdon's Chapel, one of 3 chapels for dissenters (they believed that state religions impinged on the freedom of conscience). (He is listed in the Dissenters Burying Ground Register).

His death was registered in April-May_June of 1884.

He was a Non-Conformist. This included the Congregationalists, Baptists , Unitarians and Methodists.
