Michael was born in 1790. He is the son of Robert Heaton and Betty Murgatroyd. He was baptised on 16 August 1790 at Haworth, Yorkshire, Michael son of Robert and Betty Heaton of Roydhouse. Note, his baptism has been transcribed as 1789 because the August 1790 page has been scanned in the middle of year 1789 by Ancestry. There are two
consecutive pages for August with different entries (this is the second page).[1][2]
He was mentioned in the will of his grandfather John Murgatroyd of Roydhouse proved 10 January 1810. John left his furniture, cattle, and farming implements to his grandson Michael Heaton.[3]
He married Ellen Smith on 30 March 1812 at Thornton in Craven.[4]
Michael died in 1860[5] and was buried on 9 March 1860 at Haworth, Michael Heaton of Bingley parish, aged 69 years.[6] Royd House was in Haworth parish, so he may have been staying with family at the time of his death. The family gravestone reads: IN MEMORY of Eliza Daughter of Michael & Ellen Heaton of Royd house who died March 24th 1822 in the 7th Year of her Age ALSO in Memory of Mary Daughter of the said Michael and Ellen Heaton who died June 18th 1826 in the 1st Year of her Age Also in Memory of William their Son who died June 22nd 1832 in the 2nd Year of his Age Also of the above ELLEN wife of the said MICHAEL HEATON who died August 19th 1853 in the 65th Year of her
