Notes for JABESH HEATON, JR.: PROOF:

Estimating his birth date; If he was mentioned in Will dated 1762 (below), he was probably at least 18, so would be born about 1744;
Nov 2, 1762,Will of Henry Johnson, of Roxbury Twsp., Morris Co.,Executors - my wife, son Richard, and friend, John Van Tuyl.Witnesses - JABESH HEATON JR,Timothy Skinner, DANIEL HEATON JR. Proved March 17, 1763.(Lib. 11, p. 460)This shows a close relationship with Jabesh Heaton Jr. and Daniel Heaton Jr.
"Some Early Records of Morris C, NJ, 1740-1799"/Stryker-Rodda, pg 114 (delegate to N.J. First Constitutional convention May 1776);
He fought in Rev. War from Roxbury, Morris Co, NJ ; "Military Indent 1788, certificate #138 dated May 3, 1784;"Men from Morris County NJ who served in the Ame. Rev." by Barbara Hoskins pg 90;

Gen. Mag. of NJ, Vol 46, pg 84,89 (shows Jabesh Heaton Sr. with Sawmill);
Revolutionary census 1778-1780 shows both Jabesh Sr & Jr in Roxbury Twp.;
Tax Records 1779-1795 (shows Jabesh Heaton Sr with Saw Mill until 1783, then Jabesh Heaton Jr. has SawMill afterwards and mentions it in several deeds; Jabesh Heaton Sr. no longer on tax records after 1790, probably when he went to Greene Co, Pa.;
"Mt. Olive Twp. Historical Journal Centennial" no page numbers;1st page Under 'Flanders' it talks about Dec 17, 1770 Jabez Heaton of Roxbury bought a tract of 562 acres from Wm. Allen of Philadelphia;
"Mt. Olive Twp. Historical Journal Centennial" no page numbers;2nd page Under 'Flanders' In 1763 Jasibeth/Jabesh Heaton sold land to John Ayers which comprises the land the village now stands;
"Mt. Olive Twp. Historical Journal Centennial" no page numbers;I have a copy of this deed;4th page Under 'Flanders' states,Also on Oct 3,1789 Jabesh Heaton Jr. conveyed by deed a tract of land to several men including Jabish Heaton all of NJ chosen and appointed to be trustees and to act in behalf of the society called Methodists, etc. etc.
"Early Germans of New Jersey"/chambers pg 142, 353, 400, 619 talks about Jabesh Heaton Sr. bought 563 acres of land from Wm. Allen in Dec 1,1770;and whose son Jabesh Heaton Jr. and wife conveyed by deed bearing date Oct 3, 1789 the land to trustees of the Society called "Methodist".The deed of Jabesh Sr. dated 1770I could not locate yet, but I have the deed by Jabesh Jr. conveying to the Methodist in 1789,for some reason it was not officially recorded until Oct 14, 1841.
He was either married previously to Mary ?according to Deed dated Oct 3, 1789, or Elizabeth was also called Mary;
"Centennial Celebration of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Flanders Morris Co, NJ"pg 7;
" Archives of the State of New Jersey" First Series, Vol 33, pg 170 - He was attorney and administrator for Susannah Heaton widow of James Heaton, his Uncle, in August 1793;I have this probate;
"Index to Greene Co, Pa. Wills 1796-1900"/Closson, pg 8;I have Will of Jabesh Sr.;He did not mention Jabesh Heaton Jr. because he had already left him everything in NJ.Tax records prove he passed the 'Mill' down to Jabesh Heaton Jr., other references above show Jabesh Heaton Sr. with land, Jabesh Heaton Jr. sold same land.
Will of Jabesh Jr.; (He is now referred to as Jabesh Sr. because he has an adult son named Jabesh Heaton, and his father is now gone to Penn. and deceased);
His wife Elizabeth married next for her third marriage, John Farley.In deeds where they sell land they mention all of her children.
"The Heaton Families"/Dean Heaton, first edition pg 83 (4-102), 130 (should be here as a son, some of this is incorrect,but his second edition is correct);

Will & Probate of Jabesh Heaton;
Gravestone pictures of Cemetery.
She is buried with her third husband and her son Daniel Heaton (my ancestor) in Dickersonville Cemetery, NY
1) She married1) Mr. Smith and had Christopher b.1789 & Susan Smith b.1791.(Benjamin Smith possibly son of John Smith whose land bordered her father Daniel Heaton Jr. according to Manuscript C7).She then married2) second cousin to her father, Jabesh Heaton.She had Daniel and Jabesh the third and several other children. When her husband Jabesh died she married3) John Farley, they moved to New York and had several more children.
Proof of Elizabeth's parentage and children of Daniel Heaton Jr. was difficult.Betty Davis sent me copies of original letters written by Mrs. Eretta Rose Starr in 1930s who was Gr-Grandaughter of Elizabeth (Heaton) Smith, Heaton, Farley.(Eliz & John Farley had daughterSarah Ann Farley m/George P. Rose, they had son Galen, and he had daughter Eretta Rose Starr).Eretta Starr wrote the letters to James Oliver Heaton, grandfather of Betty Davis and also Gr-grandson of Elizabeth (Heaton) Smith, Heaton, Farley.

A)In letter #1 dated 1935 she states she did not know who the parents of Elizabeth Heaton were. B)In letter #2 dated 1937 she states the siblings of Eliz. were named:Phoebe m/Noadiah Dickerson;Rachel m/Silas Hopkins;Hattie m/Mr. Cooper;Susan m/John McMicken Esq.;Martha m/Andrew Rorback;and Benj. m/Mary Burnet;but still does not know who their parents are.I found the Marriage record of Sussex Co, NJ. dated Dec. 28, 1796; states' was married Andrew Rolaback to Martha Heaton daughter of Daniel Heaton deceased'.If Martha who married Andrew Rolaback (Rorback) was sister of Elizabeth Heaton (as stated in Eretta Rose Starr's letters), then Daniel was father of Elizabeth also.This makes sense since many documents with Daniel Heaton also have Jabesh Heaton;and Daniel Heaton Jr. owned land that bounded her probable first husband John Smith.

Children of JABESH HEATON and ELIZABETH HEATON are: i. DANIEL7 HEATON, SR., b. March 08, 1798, Morris Co, NJ; d. November 04, 1834, Niagara Co., NY; m. NANCY PARKS, December 06, 1815, Hunterdon Co, NJ; b. April 26, 1798, Hunterdon Co, NJ; d. January 02, 1865, Cassville, Huntingdon Co, PA.
