Biography

Charles was born on 14 July 1834 in Illinois to William Evans and Rachel McLaughlin.[1]

Charles married Nancy E Dalton on 20 March 1861 in Brown, Illinois.[2][3] To this marriage at least 9 children were born:

  1. John William Evans – 18 October 1860[4] - 22 September 1924[5]
  2. Samuel Wesley Evans – 12 May 1863 – 13 December 1913 [6]
  3. James Oliver Evans – 16 January 1866 [7] – 28 November 1930 [8][9]
  4. Charles E. Evans – About 1868[10] - Unknown
  5. Alfred Henry Evans – 1870[11] - 1921 [12][13]
  6. Lydia Caroline Evans – 1873[14] - Unknown
  7. Ida A. Evans – 1876[15] - Unknown

  • In the 1870 census Charles (age 35) was in Cooperstown, Brown, Illinois. He was living with his wife and 5 children. He was working as a Farmer.[18]
  • In the 1880 census Chas (age 44) was the married head of household in Glenwood, Mills, Iowa. He was living with his wife, 3 daughters, and 5 sons. He was working as a Farmer.[19]
  • In the 1885 Iowa State census Charles (age 49) was recorded as married in Mills, IA. He was living with his wife, 4 sons, and 3 daughters. He was employed as a Farmer.[20]

Military History:

  • Charles was in a military record for the Civil War Draft on 1 July 1863 in Cooper, Brown, Illinois.[21]

Charles died at the age of 73 on 8 November 1907 in Glenwood, Mills, Iowa. He was buried in the Glenwood Cemetery.[22][23][24][1]

Research Notes

Ancestry notes that there is one more child by the name of David L Evans but there are no sources to support this. They note he was born on June 30, 1882 but there is no one listed by this name on the 1885 Iowa State Census. There is a Daniel S. Evans, born 3 June 1882, listed on the census. Ancestry also lists an Edward Evans but I cannot find any sources to support this and this name does not appear on any of the Census records.
