Disputed Origins

Samuel Davis is not the son of John Davis and Mary Spring. Their children were Mary, John and Benjamin.[1] The several Davis families in New England and England are notoriously hard to decipher. Since Mary Spring was born 8 years after the birth date for this Samuel Davis, she is not his mother.

Samuel Davis' parentage is not known per this source.[2]

Biography

Samuel Davis, born about 1615 - England , moved to Boston from Watertown in 1646. His will was dated May 2, 1672, and probated July 4, 1672. He left one-third of his property to his wife, Anna, and various amounts to his children Hannah Griggs, Abigail Townsend, Gershom, Mary Townsend, and Priscilla, and to Hannah Griggs, granddaughter.[2]

Married 30 November 1631 , London, Middlesex, England, to Anna Norcross , born about 1615 , Deceased after 1646 - Boston, Suffolk Co., MA[3]

Davis families of early Roxbury and Boston, pages 271-273 [4], provides details of the children of Samuel and Anna Davis. Unfortunately, there is very little information about Samuel and Anna themselves.

Note: Find A Grave [5] gives Samuel's birth date as 1611. Assuming his marriage date of November 30, 1631 is correct, then 1611 is likely closer to his correct birth date as he would have married at the age of 20 or 21 rather than 16 or 17.

Should Samuel and his wife, Anna Norcross be part of the PGM? Married in 1631, likely England, but oldest child, Hannah Davis-21375 was born in Roxbury, Suffold, Massachusetts Bay.

Davis-5687 and Davis-2332 are not ready to be merged because: Before a merge can happen with these two, the fathers should be sorted out

Davis-5687 and Davis-2332 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents, same death date, need to reconcile only place of birth.

According to sources on Davis-2277, father should not be Davis-2277. The John that he is currently has as father was a different person, who married a different woman. John Davis-22029 was the man who married Mary Spring. If you look at the sources on Davis-2277 you will see further information.

If you have other sources, for his parents, would you please post them to his bio?

Thank you, Sharon

The links on this page don't work. What is the source of the information that the John Davis who died in 1675 was his father?
