Notables May 2024

If you are interested in people who are famous, notable, noted, significant, important, historic, heroic, or otherwise fascinating, then the Notables Project might be for you!

The idea behind this post is for anyone who needs help with connecting Notables to the tree to post to this thread and ask for help, or if you want to tell us whom you have successfully connected up, or if you want to join the Notables Project and get a badge. You can j
oin the Notables Project by requesting membership in the  Notables Google Group.  Besides checking out the Notables Project page, don't forget to review the Requirements of Working on Profiles of Notables on WikiTree Page that has updated information. (For ideas on ways to connect unconnected people and branches, see also the Hints and Tips on the Connectors Chat page.)

Notables should fulfill the criteria to have at least one Wikipedia page in any language to qualify as a Notable. But an entry in the country's NATIONAL Who's Who or a NATIONAL Biography is also acceptable as well.

The Notables team will decide if a Living Notable's Profile can be made Public or not. That means the Living Notable must have at least 3  Wikipedia Pages in different languages. At least two Wikipedia pages in different languages must also include the name of at least one close or nuclear family member (Specifically parents, siblings, spouse or child). If the page should also happen to list grandparents, aunts/uncles and cousins in the "other relatives" list, those would also be helpful.

Hi I did [[Kessler-3441|Bruce Kessler.(1936-2024) This is my first time I am doing someone that I never heard of. He has 12 language  on his Wikipedia page. I wanted to do Bruce since he directed many of my 1960's- 1970's TV shows. He was a race care  driver, film and television producer. The films I never heard of. Please look at his profile. I know it needs some work on his bio. I found lots of sources but none of his marriage to actress Joan Freeman or his death record. I sources lots from Newspaper.com and Google. He was friends Steve McQueen and Elvis Presley.   Thanks

I love this!  I hadn't heard of him, but what a remarkable life.  It's great that you have taken the time to build him a profile. I'm sure there will be plenty of people helping look for sources now!  Keep up the good work!
tyvm for ur comment. He was an amazing man. i read his parents remarkable feom I read.  His mom is from China. His father was in woman’s clothing that they moved from Seattle to Beverly Hills. I bet if he didn’t get injured he would still be racing like he does with his yachts.
He is survived by his wife Joan and brother Stephen Kessler https://www.soundingsonline.com/news/adventurer-bruce-kessler-dies-at-88

I have added a profile for the Notable Sean Fitzpatrick - ALL Black Rugby Player from New Zealand.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Fitzpatrick-5728

He should be connected to the global tree overnight - except that I have also found some family profiles with INCORRECT surname spellings.

Fortunately there was one family member created with the correct spelling, so that is who the connection should go through.

But the rest of the family is a mess.

Soljak is the correct spelling. ALL NZBDM Index records use this spelling.

Profiles on wikitree (Created in 2016) use the spelling of  Soljack. There are no records using this spelling on the NZBDM index.

The Immigrant who originated this name is listed as Petar Soljak in the NZBDM Records.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Soljack-1

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Soljak-3

I have started some merges - for Petar and 2 of his daughters.  And asked the below question...

Hey guys, I have added a whole load more bands to what I'm calling Bandspace, a way to link together members of bands who have profiles (and flag people who maybe SHOULD have profiles).

I've put in cobbled-together line-ups and one-line histories based on what Wikipedia tells me, but each of these bands deserves a bit more love and attention, ideally from fans of their music.  Or you can just pick a band that needs a bit of work and give them a glow-up.  Look at each band like a mini-Freespace page, and feel free to edit their section liberally.

I'll trawl through to find and add existing profiles eventually but I'm hoping other people will jump in and help out.  It will work best if there are also hyperlinks from band-member profiles back to the specific band header (a link to the freespace page but you add #Band_Name).

Of course you can add more bands too, the more the merrier!

by Stephen Corkey G2G6 Mach 2 (27.7k points)
I already have some band's history of members on pages in the Entertainment Section of the Notables page. Maybe you'd want to discuss the "Bandspace" idea with Notables Leaders.
The location of any band's space isn't important, if there is a dedicated Freespace page or a Notables page that already serves the function then there is no need for duplication on the Bandspace page.  The important thing is that anyone can get to the space from any bandmember's profile, and get to any bandmember's profile from the space.

I'm sure Notables leaders are aware of what I've been doing (I keep posting about it here after all) but so far they haven't contacted me to voice any opinions on it either way.  I've had a few positive comments from others.  It's really just a big fancy consolidated index page.

I found the Entertainment Section you mentioned, I think there is only overlap on 3 bands listed (including 2 I've only just added and haven't done any linking),  I'll redirect Bandspace to those pages.

Bernard Hill, English actor has passed today. Here's the announcement which was posted in the main part of G2G:

A profile has been created, but we'll have to wait to see if one of the PM's out there with a private profile without Notables access might be a duplicate. Here is the one created today:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Hill-62575
After a quick search, I'm fairly certain there is no duplicate (although one might appear later - it's always possible). So this one will probably be the first.
Thank you, Scott. I'll update my "Titanic the Movie" space page with his profile number.

Could the Notable Project make the profile of Arie Luijendijk (Luydendyk) (still living) public? He has Wikipedia pages in various languages: English, Dutch, French, German, and probably more languages."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arie_Luyendyk

by Elsa van der Velde G2G6 Mach 3 (35.3k points)

Hi Elsa, as a Living Notable, his profile needs to be managed by a Project to be able to open for limited public viewing.

See the process on this page to request co-management by the Notables Project, after which his profile will be opened by the Notables Project.

Hi, can you open for viewing Ulisses Correia e Silva
(De_Pina_Correia_e_Silva-1), he is the current Cabo Verde prime minister?

He is in the list of Cabo Verdean notables created by David Randall: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Cabo_Verde/People

Thanks

by Anonymous Anonymous G2G6 Mach 1 (18.1k points)
I would love to open his profile, but due to a technicality in the WikiTree privacy policies, he does not qualify as a Living Notable. He has 34 Wikipedia pages but no family members mentioned on any of them. I am able to edit Wikipedia pages and could add family members, but I don't know any of his family members. If you can find some, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Hi,

he is featured in the Barros Brito's site: https://www.barrosbrito.com/16502.html

His father died in 2021:

Balai, December 23, 2021. https://www.balai.cv/noticias/atualidade/governo-e-acolp-manifestam-pesar-pela-morte-de-virgilio-correia-e-silva/ .
Ok, I have updated his Wikipedia profile to include his parents in four languages. As such, I can now open his WikiTree profile. I have also created a profile for his deceased father using an obituary as a source. His mother appears to still be living, so I cannot create a profile for her.

Thanks David.

Based on information from Barros Brito's site (https://www.barrosbrito.com/16502.html) Ulisses Correia e Silva (De_Pina_Correia_e_Silva-1), could be connected but through living persons...

A maternal aunt of Ulisses Correia e Silva, that was born in 1929, married, Álvaro Leitão da Graça (Leitão_da_Graça-1), a grandfather of Neno (Barbosa_Barros-1).

I have connected Prime Minister Silva to Neno, the Portuguese footballer. As stated elsewhere, Neno's grandfather was married to the Prime Minister's maternal aunt.

For those of you who might be fans of great character actors of television in the 1960's and 1970's, I've created a profile for Victor Buono. Victor was famous for his recurring roles, like King Tut on the 1960's Batman show, and Count Manzeppi in The Wild Wild West. I've got a start on his tree, but he's still unconnected. If anyone wants to help find him a connection, please feel free to jump in.

by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)
Victor should be connected tonight when the links update.

Despite there being a Wikipedia page in 26 languages, there does not appear to be any that name any nuclear family members (parent, spouse, child, sibling) which means he does not qualify to be created as a Living Notable under Wikitree's privacy policy.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Living_Notables

Status has changed and profile was created at Carlos Veiga

Hey there noble Notablers, I have been putting up more indexes on a page for UK sport, since it seems to fall between the cracks of Notables, England and Scotland.

Now I don't expect to garner a huge amount of interest Wikitree-wide for my lists of England soccer or cricket captains, but how about Golf?

I have an index of the winners of the Open Championship (the one in Scotland, not the US one) and it has already helped me more than double the number of profiles in the Open Championship Winners (golf) category (as in it has gone up from 4 to 9).  While I'm focused on UK sportspersons, the winners of The Open come from all over the world with a healthy phalanx of Americans among them.

I know Sports Notables Project has helped connect/boost a few noted golfers.  If anyone feels like hunting down and connecting a few more golfers, especially the Americans, please feel free to dip into the index.  If 10 people connect just one golfer, that's 10 more golfers on Wikitree!  Maybe a few are already there, just not categorised?

I think it is an achievable goal to get every non-living Major-winner onto Wikitree, if we get close to completing The Open we can move on to the US Majors...

The death has taken place of Mary Banotti née O'Mahony, former Member of the European Parliament and unsuccessful presidential election candidate in Ireland.

She has Wikipedia pages in 7 languages including English.

Her Irish Times death notice confirms that she was predeceased by her parents Kitty Collins and Jim O'Mahony, whose profiles are public, but not open, so that I cannot connect them to their daughter Mary.

ago by Paddy Waldron G2G6 Mach 6 (62.5k points)
Paddy, a chara,

Have you created a profile for Mary?
No, Feargal - I thought I'd better wait and see whether we could get her parents opened.  The profile manager hasn't been active for over two years. I can't remember whether requests to him to open the profiles or expand the trusted lists should come from me or directly from the Notables Project.
Typically the Notables Project would be interested in the trusted lists of LIVING Notable relatives. Since these parents are deceased, I have left a message on the profiles asking the PM to open those profiles ... so then anyone can add the deceased Notable.

Gudrun Ure (wiki), the actress who played "Supergran" in the 1980s British television show of that name, has passed away at the grand old age of 98.

Born in 1926 in Campsie, her parents were Allan and Lily Ure and she had two younger brothers, deceased. (Super Gran star Gudrun Ure dies aged 98 - BBC News).

The other day I noticed that [[Salzmann-121|Felix Salten]], the author of Bambi, etc., had no connections at all. I created profiles for his wife and children, who are all notable in their own right, but I didn't go any further because I am totally lost when it comes to records for Hungary and area. If someone familiar with the area could try to connect Felix, it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Anonymous, nuclear family members must be named in at least two Wikipedia languages. He has parents named in English and Spanish Wikipedia pages, so he qualifies to be created as a Living Notable.

You can create the profile and then request co-management by the Notables Project by using the Notables Project management request form process. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Requirements_of_Working_with_Individuals_who_are_Notable#Project_Management_Request

Notables Project will then take care of opening the profile under Wikitree's privacy guidelines.
