Connected Profiles vs. Unconnected Profiles Stats (June 2023)

Question

The number of connected profiles reported on June 1, 2023 was 29,658,478 and on July 1, 2023 was 29,913,955. The number of new profiles connected to the main tree for June 2023 was 255,477.

The number of unconnected profiles reported on June 1, 2023 was 4,818,601 and on July 1, 2023 was 4,827,907. The number of new profiles unconnected to the main tree for June 2023 was 9,306.

That's a ratio of 1 (unconnected profile) to 27.4529 (connected profiles) for the month of June 2023.

Help my tired brain... so there were created 28 profiles and one of them was unconnected (roughly)?

That ratio is a bit misleading as it forgets that the Connectors are busy connecting profiles that existed before June. So it does not mean that almost all the 264,763 profiles created in June were connected. It is a mixture of new and old profiles connected or merged in June.

It does indicate that the % of connections in the whole tree must be increasing; on June 1, 86.02% of all profiles were connected, and on July 1, the % increased to 86.10%.

Previously I have worked on linking up LARGE unconnected branches, but in May 2023 I started working on connecting the SMALL unconnected branches which have really made a great leap forward. 

The typical monthly Connectors Challenge showed about 100 unconnected branches getting linked ...

In July 2023 there is no monthly Connectors Challenge. Instead on the weekend of 14 July 2023, there will be a Connectathon to increase wikitree's overall profile count.

that excludes the work of connectors who forget to log their connections.

list i am working on was 23,468 (Nov 2022) unconnected profiles created based a history book for Allegheny, Pennsylvania , now down to only 20,534 unconnected. try to do a branch/family or two a day. think it was over 28,000 unconnected profiles when i started.

I think you are talking about individual profile numbers.

Just to clarify, the numbers I quoted were for unconnected BRANCHES, so the actual unconnected profile numbers will be much higher.

When I make my connections, I look up how many profiles were connected ...
