The Kentucky Project is looking for volunteers.

Kentucky is a diverse state with a rich history and culture. It is home to a number of major industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. Kentucky is also a major center for horse racing, with the Kentucky Derby being one of the most famous horse races in the world.

If you have family who came from Kentucky, members who live in Kentucky or are just interested in this great state, we would love to have you join us.

We are working on connecting profiles, adding sources, documenting Notables, surveying cemeteries, digging into the Homestead land grants, and add profiles for all Kentuckians that served in wars.  Our mission is to explore all of Kentucky and her people through genealogy.

If you are a WikiTree member who would like to help improve Kentucky profiles, please:

  1. Signed WikiTree's Honor Code
  2. Introduce yourself by answering this post. (Please post an answer, not a comment.) Tell us about your interests in Kentucky and we will get you a - United States badge.
  3. Add kentucky to your followed tags, as well as tags for any special topics that you are focusing on.

The Kentucky Project is  under the umbrella of The United States Project

Hi,

I'm interested in the Kentucky project--my father's family were among those who settled in Kentucky when it first opened up and, I'm told, built the first house in Lexington.

Being a ninth-generation KentuckIan I have a deep interest in the genealogy and history of my native commonwealth.  I've been researching in various courthouses and libraries around the state for four decades.  So I would very much like to be a part of the Kentucky Project.

I would like to join the Kentucky project – half of my family tree is from the southeastern region (Harlan, Letcher, Knott, Floyd) and I've been working on adding profiles in that area (as well as adjacent Virginia).

I'm interested in Kentucky because my second great grandparents were born in kentucky:Henry Kitch (Kitch-753) and Elizabeth York (York-4960). They are brickwall ancestors on my fathers side. I read somewhere that there was a fire that destroyed records from Kentucky.
