I picked up 2 orphaned profiles, John Allen & Mary Clarke Allen. Am I adding already discarded information from a merge?

Before the profile for John Allen was orphaned, other people merged him with another John Allen.  I appear to be adding some of the same information that may have been discarded/and/or kept.  I have him married to Mary (Clarke) Allen (Clarke-18401) that was also orphaned.  I thought I had already figured this out on my MyHerritage tree.  My husband, Lowell, also had taken a DNA test with MyHerritage.  On that tree she is the daughter of the 3rd Dr. John Clarke, and Sarah Shrimpton, based mostly from published sources.  Am I helping or hurting the profiles?  Char

I think adding the actual sources is much better than the original information that stated the profile was sourced from a FamilySearch tree with a statement that there are 5 sources.

So, I think you are helping the profiles.  It might be really nice to add a research section == Research Notes == that discusses any discrepancies you find.

Additionally, I see that Mary Clarke was added as his wife with no source that appears on the profile.  I'm not saying this is incorrect, just that it certainly would be nice to see a marriage record or a will that confirms she was his wife.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I think I will do them.  The marriage is listed under Vital, Town Records.  I will have to make that clearer.
