Biography

Elizabeth Watson was born in 1842 in Bold, Prescot parish, Lancashire, England to George Evan Watson and Elizabeth (Roberts) Watson.

Elizabeth Watson, daughter of George Evan Watson, a game keeper, & Elizabeth, residing at Bold, was christened on 19 Jun 1842 at the Chapel of St Mary in Great Sankey, Lancashire.[1][2]

In 1851 Elizabeth Watson (age 8, Scholar) lived at Liverpool Road in Bold with her father Evan (37[57], Ag Lab), mother Elizabeth (53), brother George (13, Errand Boy), cousin Ann Watson (10), and nephew Frederick Hughes (0) [aka Sederick/Cedric Hughes/Watson].[3]

Unable to locate Elizabeth on the 1861 census. Her family lived at Turnpike Road in Bold: father George E (68, Agricultural Labourer), mother Elizabeth (63), and nephew Frederick [Sederick] Watson (10, Scholar).[4]

Elizabeth Watson married John Bevan in 1868. The marriage was registered in Chorley, Lancashire in the second quarter of the year.[5]

  • His full name was John Tasker Bevan. The family seem to have used the combined Tasker Bevan like a surname, as Elizabeth was also recorded with Tasker as a middle name on most records.

Elizabeth and John had seven children:

  1. Richard Tasker Bevan (1868-1928)
  2. Margaret Tasker Bevan (1870-1876)
  3. John Tasker Bevan (1872-bef.1926)
  4. Frances Tasker (Bevan) Hollins (1876-1970)
  5. Mary "Polly" Elizabeth Tasker (Bevan) Miller (1878-1953)
  6. Augustine "Gus" Tasker Bevan (1881-1957)
  7. Stephen Samuel Tasker Bevan (1883-1951)

In 1871 Elizabeth T Bevan (age 28) lived in Parr, Lancashire with her husband John T (23), son Richard T ([3]), and daughter Margaret T (1).[6]

In 1881 Elizabeth T Bevan (age 38) lived at Watnall Road in Hucknall Torkard, Nottinghamshire with her husband John T (33, Engine Smith At Colliery) and four children: Richard T (12, Scholar), John T (8, Scholar), Frances T (5, Scholar), and Mary E T (2).[7][8]

Elizabeth's husband was not recorded with the family on the 1891 or 1901 censuses, but she was still married (in 1891 her relationship to head of household was "wife", though in 1901 she was listed as the head of household). John was most likely working away from home.

In 1891 Elizth Bevan (age 50) lived in Leicester, Leicestershire with five children: Richard (22, Groom), Frances (15, Apprentice to Dressmaking), Mary (11), Augustine (9), and Stephen (7), as well as two boarders: Jane Mason (25, Assistant Teacher) and Florence Barrs (17, Drapers Assistant).[9]

In 1901 Elizabeth Bevan (age 61) lived at Woodgate in Leicester with five children: Richard (33, Rivetter Iron Trade), Frances (24, Cutter Fcy Hosiery), Mary (22, Cutter Fcy Hosiery), Augustine (20, Steam Pipe Fitter), and Stephen (18, Tram Conductor), as well as her nephew Sederick Watson (48, Tram Conductor) and visitor Albert Miller (26, Boot Operative).[10]

Elizabeth's husband emigrated to Canada in 1905:

  • John Taskar Bevan (age 55, Engineer), with his sons Richard (34, Engineer), Gus (25, Engineer), and Stephen (22, Motorman), sailed aboard the steamship Lake Champlain, which departed from Liverpool in April 1905 bound for Saint John, New Brunswick - their intended final destination was Toronto, Ontario.[11]

Elizabeth joined him the next year (along with her married daughters, whose husbands had also gone ahead of them):

  • E T Bevan (age 64), with her daughters Mrs W Hollins (29) and Mrs A Miller (27), sailed aboard the ship Virginian, which departed from Liverpool on 22 Mar 1906 bound for Halifax, Nova Scotia - their final destination was Humboldt Saskatchewan.[12]

Elizabeth and her family settled in the area of Sinnett, Saskatchewan, where they farmed.

In 1906 Elizabeth Beven (age 64) lived in Humboldt district, Saskatchewan with her husband J Y[T] (59) and two sons: Richard T (38) and Angetine (24).[13]

In 1911 Elizabeth T Bevan (age 68) lived in Township 34 R21 W2, Humboldt district with her husband John P[T] (63, Farmer) and three sons: Richard T (43, Farmer), Stephen T (26[~28], Farmer), and Augustus (28[~30], Farmer) - according to this census: Elizabeth was born in Apr 1843[1842], she arrived in Canada in 1906, and she was Roman Catholic.[14]

In 1916 Elizabeth Bevon (age 73) lived in Ayr, Humboldt district with her husband John (69, Farming) and two sons: Richard (46) and Stephan (31).[15] Elizabeth's married daughters were recorded with their families nearby.

Elizabeth Tasker Bevan passed away in 1922. She is buried at Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Cemetery in Sinnett, Saskatchewan.[16]
