Biography

Wife of Ambrose,Sarah Burnside:

Comment about name: What is the source of her middle name Agnes and her maiden name Watson?

Children:Sarah Horton (born Burnside), Eizabeth Nixon (born Burnside), Mary Myers (born Burnside), Benjamin Burnside, Charlotte Burnside, Anne Martin (born Burnside), <Private> Burnside, <Private> Burnside

After Ambrose's death the family was not permitted to take up his allotment denying them a means of support. Sarah was forced to send her youngest Ann to the orphanage and the rest of the family sought employment. By the 1828 Census it can be seen that all members seem to be living apart according to their employment.

At the time of the census Sarah was a lodger at John GREENs, Kent St.

Sarah was born in 1786. Sarah Unknown ... She passed away in 1840.

Comment about death: What is the source of the year of her death in 1840? She is more likely the Sarah Burnside whose death in 1830 was reported in the Sydney Gazette:

Sydney Gazette and New South Wales Advertiser (NSW : 1803 - 1842), Tuesday 4 May 1830, page 3:
CORONER'S INQUESTS.
Shocking Accidents. — On Friday afternoon a Coroner's Inquest took place at the London Tavern, on the body of Sarah Burnside, who fell down and expired instantly in the Police Office, about 2 o'clock on that day ; the jury after viewing the body, and deliberating a length of time, were of opinion that a medical gentleman should examine the body ere they could decide. Mr. Cook, assisted by Mr. Henderson, therefore, opened the body, and after a careful examination were of opinion, " that she came by her death in consequence of habitual intemperance." And the jury returned a verdict of " Died by the visitation of God."
