Newspaper Birth, Marriage and Death Notices

Ida Reed has transcribed these notices from 'The Democrat', which only ran under that name for a few months, and then became 'The Sault Ste. Marie News.' There are many Ontario names mentioned, from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, as well as Grey and Simcoe counties. Many other areas show up in these notices as well, although the Northern Peninsula of Michigan figures prominently in the notices carried by these newspapers. Many are items copied from other Northern Michigan towns and from newspapers all over the continent. I would suggest that you search the pages using the search feature on your browser to find names of interest. I've created smaller pages for these notices from the larger, original pages, if you know the year of interest. Some death notices and obits provide a wealth of genealogical information, and others provide a lot of information on what it was like for our ancestors in their everyday lives over 100 years ago.
