Founders of Windsor, Connecticut

Windsor was the first permanent English settlement in Connecticut. See: The First English Settlement in Connecticut, by Jim Trocchi

On September 26, 1633, a company of men under Lieutenant William Holmes arrived by ship from the Plymouth Colony in Massachusetts, on invitation of the local Indians, and established a trading post near the junction of the Farmington and Connecticut Rivers. In 1635 these first settlers were joined by a larger group which came overland from Dorchester in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Windsor, with Hartford and Wethersfield, formed the Colony of Connecticut in 1636.

A "Founder" is someone that was in Windsor in 1641 or earlier. (Also see TAG: Vol. 16, Page 371-2) The following is a list of the “Founders” of Windsor as amended and approved by the Descendants of the Founders of Ancient Windsor, Inc. through November 2020.

Please note that there's been a revision of the Founders List by the Descendants and Founders of Ancient Windsor (DFAW) hereditary society. In December 2020, the DFAW Board, based on recommendations from its History Committee, voted to correct the List to remove Thomas Marshall and John Osborn, and to reinstate Richard Osborn. The updated Founders List can be accessed at: https://dfaw.org/founders-list/

Jillaine, It appears that you would like to get rid of this page. If that is true, can you make me the manager instead of getting rid of this page? I would like to see if I can create something that is more than just a simple list that appears on the Category page.

Thanks, Rick
