Peter was born in 1888^[1][2][3] in Thruscross, Yorkshire^[2][3]. He was the son of Mary (Heaton)^[2][3] and William Nelson^[2][3].

He fought in WW1 as a Private in the 14th Battalion, Yorkshire Light Infantry, number 1529 and was killed in the battle of the Somme on 7 July 1916.
