Biography
According to census records David was born between 1816 and 1818 in Glencairn, Dumfriesshire. The 1871 Census transcript on Ancestry.com specifically lists his birthplace as "Minigive", which is presumably a mistranscription of Moniaive, a village in the parish of Glencairn. Scotlands People does not have any obvious record of David's baptism in Glencairn parish. However there are records for his siblings Thomas, Grace (indexed as "Grizzle") and Mary who were baptised with the surname "Connochie". There is also Margaret who is in the baptism index as "Connalin".
David married Janet Angus on 29 November 1839 in Johnstone, Dumfriesshire[1].
David died at his residence in Richmond on 26 September 1892. Victoria BDM (ref: 11751 / 1892) lists his parents and "Wm McConchie" and "Ann Moffitt". The death notice in The Australasian [2]:
- McCONCHIE.—On the 26th ult., at his residence, 5
- Yarra-place, Richmond, David McConchie, aged 75
- years. Dumfriesshire papers please copy.
David is buried at St Kilda Cemetery - a photo can be found on BillionGraves.
