Biography

Darlene Joy Dougherty went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March, 3rd, 2022. Darlene was born on April 11th, 1934, to James McConchie and Dorothy Stevens McConchie in the suburbs of Detroit. Darlene was the eldest of seven children.

Darlene (affectionately called Grandma Whitehair) was very adventurous, she enjoyed traveling, she would use the term “Let’s get Lost”, which meant to pack up a vehicle with kids and a cooler and find a new place to explore. Darlene even lived in Ireland for a period of time, where she found her love for Irish music. Darlene had a servant's heart and always wanted to help others. She never thought of helping people as a burden but it was a way to show the love of Christ. She also had a big sweet tooth. She loved her ice cream and cookies, but most of all she loved all of her kids and grandchildren. Darlene was a very hard worker, she started working at a very young age by picking potatoes for 14 cents a crate. She had a love for cooking and sewing, but NO one could clean a house like she could.

Darlene was a loving mother to five children. Her first born Joy Lynn passed away at the age of four. This was very heartbreaking to Darlene but she had faith she would see her again one day. Today she is in Heaven holding her sweet angel and walking the streets of gold. Darlene’s faith was a very important part of her life. One of her favorite bible verses was Proverbs 3:5-6, 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.'
