Lois R. Keene was born on July 6,1905 in Holt, Alabama, daughter of William Augustus Keene and Mary H Powell.[1]
She married Howell Abston on October 30, 1990 in Montgomery, Alabama. [2]
She died, at the age of 101, on July 7, 2006 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.[1] She is buried at the Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, Tuscaloosa, Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.[3]

Lois Johnson Abston, age 101, of Tuscaloosa, died July 7, 2006 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 11:30 a.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gus Keene; mother, Mamie Keene; husband, Joe Melton Johnson; daughter, Frances Tramell; sister, Mary Belle Merriman; and brothers, Lee Keene, Hugh Keene, Wilkie Keene and Ray Keene.
Survivors include granddaughters, Donna (Sam) Gardiner of Bessemer and Deanna (Tony) Stoker of Bismarck, N.D.; husband, Howell Abston; daughter, Shelia (Danny) Carden; sons, Willard Travis (Linda) Peterson and Kenny Abston of Cottondale; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Lois lived a very full and varied life. She attended Holt High School and the University of Alabama. She married Joe M. Johnson and had one daughter, Frances.
During World War II, she worked in defense plants in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and New York. Moving back to Tuscaloosa in 1949, she ran a boarding house for students and later operated a grocery store in Holt.
In her mid 70s she worked as a cashier at Greenetrack. In 1990, she married her current husband, Howell Abston
