ev. James J. Jakes, 47 Headed Immaculate Conception Church The Rev. James J. Jakes, 47, pastor of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 1415 N. North Park, died Sunday morning while saying mass at his Old Town parish. "He was exchanging the sign of peace . . . and he collapsed," said a parish nun, who asked not to be identified. A lifetime Chicago resident, Father Jakes served as the Archdiocese of Chicago's liaison to the charismatic renewal movement since 1979. That group is made up of people who believe they are influenced by the Holy Spirit and sometimes speak in tongues. Father Jakes was a graduate of the archdiocesan seminary system. He was ordained in 1965 and served as associate pastor at St. Mel-Holy Ghost until 1971. From 1971 to 1979, he was associate pastor at Holy Name Cathedral. In 1979, he moved to Immaculate Conception. Survivors include his mother, Marie; two brothers, Richard and George, and six sisters, Georgene M. Zibits-Fiorillo, Anne Marie Westerhold, Dolores Harris, Kathryn Jakes Taylor and Laverne and Mary Clare Jakes. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Immaculate Conception Church, where a service for the charismatic community will be held at 6:30 p.m. Service for parish members will be at at 9 p.m. Mass will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Holy Name Cathedral, 735 N.
