Biography

Obit: James M. Jackson, age 85, of Upper Arlington, died Friday, July 14, 2006 at Sunrise at Worthington. He retired as Supervisor of Photography and Video from Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company in 1981, after many years of service. Previously, he was a photographer for the State of Ohio, Adjutant General's Office for 13 years.

He is survived by his wife, June Jackson; sister, Nelda McMillen, Worthington; sister-in-law, Betty Jackson, Lakeside, Ohio; nieces and nephews and stepdaughter, Karen (Rev. Michael) Mahoney and her family. James was preceded in death by his first wife Alice in 1996 and brother Willis Jackson.

Veteran WW II in U.S. Army Air Corp. James attended The Ohio State University, where he was a member of the marching band. He continued his studies transferring to the New York Institute of Photography, completing commercial and portrait courses. He was a 50 year member of Napoleon Lodge # 256 F & AM and American Legion # 614, Hilliard.

Among his hobbies, he was an avid hot air balloonist. He received his commercial pilot certification in 1973 from the FAA and was a member of Central Ohio Balloon Club. James loved woodworking and was known as one "who could fix anything". He was also a member of the Singing Satellites.

1950 Census: 28 yo; never married; unemployed; photographer for the Air Force;
