Biography

His mother called him 'Delmas'; his wife and friends called him 'Jack'. He was born in Calhoun County, West Virginia; attended high school in Parkersburg, WV, and graduated from Ohio State University. 'Jack' worked all his adult life for the IRS in Parkersburg as Chief of the Misc. Tax Division.

Jack married first to Helen Hall and their marriage produced one daughter. Helen died in 1943 and Jack married a second time to Elizabeth 'Sis' Power in Wheeling, Ohio Co., West Virginia. Jack was raised Methodist, but after his marriage to his second wife, he joined with her in the Episcopal Church in Parkersburg, He died after several years illness from complications due to Parkinsons disease and is buried beside his second wife, Elizabeth Power Jackson Keller. His Will was recorded in Wood County, WV, WB 33, page 4 in 1961. His birth certificate is recorded in Calhoun Co Clerk's Office in 'Delayed Records #1, page A-L.

Miss Helen Chatville Hall of Parkersburg and Mr. Delmas Jackson of Big Springs, West Virginia, were married May 8 at Columbus, Ohio, and announcement has been made by the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hall. The marriage was a quiet one and occurred at the home of a Methodist Episcopal pastor of Columbus, wirh no attendants present. The bride has made her home in Columbus during this past year with her mother and elder sister, Miss Mary Hall, and Mr. Jackson has been studying at Ohio State University for the past two years. They will leave the first of June on a motoring trip.
Mrs. Jackson is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hall. She studied at the Kunst Private School in this city, also at the high school and this year has been studying art in Columbus.
Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Jackson of Calhoun county are the parents of Mr. Jackson. His father is identified with state banks and the lumber business, and Mr. Jackson spent the first two years in high school in Big Run, after which he came to Parkersburg to complete his course. He expects to finish his college course at Columbus, and they will make their home there immediately.

After he graduated from college, Jack and his wife settled in Parkersburg, Wood, West Virginia where their first and only child was born. He lived the rest of his life in Parkersburg and when he died he was buried in his second wife's family burial ground in Rockland Cemetery, Belpre, Ohio.

It is unknown which of the two Parkersburg papers this marriage announcement was cut from; either the Parkersburg News or the Parkersburg Sentinel.

Jack's obituary was published in the Parkersburg (WV) News, May 16th or 17th, 1961. The ‘yesterday’ and ‘today’ don’t calculate correctly. He died May 15th and was buried May 18th.
Carl Delmas Jackson, 54, 1617 25th St., died at 2 p.m. yesterday (May 15, 1961) in St. Joseph’s hospital, following an extended illness.
He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and an honorary member of the Parkersburg Kiwanis Club, which he served as president at one time. Born Feb. 18, 1907, at Big Springs, Calhoun County, he was a son of the late Albert and Jane Belford Jackson. He was graduated from Ohio State University, Columbus, and was employed by the Internal Revenue Service in Parkersburg for 18 years, retiring in 1952.
Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth Power Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. William F. Kimble, Mims, Fla.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Cunningham, Parkersburg, and Mrs. Oscar Garretson, Grantsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ogdin funeral home. The Rev. Griffin C. Callahan will officiate and burial will be in Rockland cemetery, Belpre, (Ohio). Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.
