Mary Jane was born in 1855. She was the daughter of Francis Jack and Elizabeth McDonald. She married Charles Daniel Moore in 1875 [1] She passed away in 1941 age 86.[2]
MRS C. D. MOORE
Another of the pioneer residents of Winton, Mrs C. D. Moore, died at Invercargill on Sunday. Mrs Moore was the wife of the late Mr Charles Daniel Moore, of Winton, who died in May 1939. Born in Tasmania 85 years ago, Mrs Moore was Miss Mary Jane Jack, a daughter of Mr Francis Jack, saw miller, of Gap Road, Winton. She was married in 1875. She came to Winton 66 years ago, after having lived in Harrisville, Invercargill, for a number of years. Mrs Moore took an active part in the affairs of the Anglican Church, and also in the interests of the town generally. She had been in ill-health for the past two weeks, during which time she had been knitting socks for her grandson who is serving overseas.
Mrs Moore is survived by her sister, Mrs A. Gerrard (Winton), her brother, Mr James Jack (Christchurch), four daughters, Mrs A. F. Tosswill (Lower Hutt), Mrs H. C. L. Gaut (Winton), Mrs C. M. Lindsay (Winton) and Miss B. Moore (Winton), and three sons, Messrs F. Moore (Winton), W. T. Moore (Christchurch) and J. P. Moore (Winton). There are 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.[3]
