Biography

Carol J. Henning was born on 16 March 1906 in Santa Clara, California.^[1] She was the daughter of Wilber Henning and Nellie (Bowen) Henning. The 1920 census^[2] lists Carol as living with her family in San Jose, Santa Clara, California where her father is a real estate office manager.

On 14 Jan 1930 Carol was living at 2953 Jackson in San Francisco when she married^[3] John Steinbeck. It was the first marriage for both of them. The 1940 census shows Carol and John living in rural, Monterey, California where John is writing from.

When they divorced, she remarried on 19 Jan 1952 to William Brown. She died in Monterey.^[4] Carol Brown was Cremated, Ashes^[5] scattered. Specifically: Scattered at Carmel River.
