Sergeant William Heaton served in the Australian Flying Corps in World War I

William Alfred Heaton was born in 1885 in Hawthorn, Colony of Victoria, the son of Priscilla Heaton and John Heaton.[1]

Mary Ann Sarah CARTER and William Alfred HEATON were married in 1909 in Victoria, Australia[2].

12 December 1916 William enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force; Service number: 1097[3]. He was assigned to the 8th Training Squadron Australian Flying Corps (AFC) later 4 Squadron AFC, set sail aboard HMAT Omrah on 17 January 1917-23 March 1917 (Plymouth, England) for overseas service; attained the rank of Sergeant; returned to Australia aboard HT Karoa on 28 March 1919 and was discharged on/about 28 October 1919.

He passed away on 1 May 1941 in Queensland, Australia[4] and was buried at the Mount Thompson Memorial Gardens and Crematorium[5].
