Michael,

Thank you for your posting of the Johnathan Haynes article photo. I still have not been able to determine his actual date of birth - too many guesses with no backup. Would you please let me know where you found the clipping that you posted. I am filing a genealogy application on this family and I have never been able to find posted family info this clear. Thank you. Diane Kepus [email address removed]

Hello, any and all family lineage I've posted here is accurate to the best of my knowledge. The history of how William Haynes age 10, and his brother Richard both orphaned, sailed to Salem Massachusetts from England in the puritan migration in 1634 aboard the ship Griffin. Settled and farmed in Salem, surviving and perhaps participating in the Salem witch trials. William's son moving to farm in the Haverhill, Massachusetts area. The grandchildren of this settler were taken captive by natives in 1696 to be sold into servitude in Quebec, where two teenage brothers Jonathan and Joseph assimilated into french culture converted to Roman Catholicism and married local girls in the St. Laurence river valley. Eventually becoming landholders they raised large families. This is documented in individual profiles with historical records and paternal lineage y-dna. The name Haynes became corrupted into Ainse in Quebec, and into Hanks when one descendant migrated south to Vermont in 1850. This individual Frank Hanks became the patriarch of the Hanks family in central Massachusetts. Y-dna testing has proven to me that this Hanks family is not linked in paternal lineage to any other known Hanks family lines, however the name Haynes / Haines, is frequently seen among other test takers with closely matching Y-dna lines. Buried in the details of these past lives are some wonderful stories of people who were playing parts in the creation of society in North America as we know it, there also is hunger, disease, murder and misery. There are more details than I care to list on this page in 2019, and more to be found as time goes by.
