Hermann was born in Ulm. For some time he was living in Vienenburg/Bad Harzburg, working for IG Farben. Here he met the Willikens sisters. Originally he asked for the youngest sister Ria's hand, but Ria's eldest sister Paula intervened. With all due respect it ought to be the middle sister Grete's turn to get married first. So it happened. Hermann married Margarethe Willikens, daughter of lime works owner Adolph Willikens.
The couple was living in Brünn for many years, Hermann working for IG Farben in Tschechien and later the whole Balkan. Many visits to the Harz based Willikens' followed, accompanied by their son Werner.
Towards the end of WWII Grete and their son Werner fled the country and to sister Paula in Alfeld whereas Hermann stayed in Brünn relying on his business and social connections. But in May 1945 the German population of Brünn was exiled and send on the so called "death march". Hermann died in August 1945 of starvation. Whether this was on the march or, as family lore has it, in an internment camp needs further research.
