- Mary was a daughter of John Presley Evans and wife Mary Oriana Duke. The family still lived in Clarendon County in 1910.
--Virgie married John James Nettles, Jr. on Dec. 24, 1919. They lived in Columbia, although they spent a few years in Macon, GA before returning to Columbia. They spent some of their later years in Garden City, SC. Virgie and Jamie had 3 children: Clyde James Nettles, Richard Sabin Nettles, and Mary Lou Nettles. She was the grandmother of 9 and had 2 great-grandsons. --She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Ruth Bible Class; she was also a member of the Garden City Chapel, Garden City.
