According to the Dictionary of National Biography, Thomas (Tomas Glyn Cothi) was born in 1766 at Capel St. Silyn, Carmarthenshire. In 1811 he became minister of the Old Meeting House, Aberdate, where he continued until his death on 29 Jan 1833. He published more than twenty works, most of them theological. In 1809 he published an English-Welsh dictionary (460pp.) compiled while in prison; in 1811 a hymn-book of a hundred hymns (104 pp.), all original. A second edition appeared in 1822.
By the time of the 1841 Census, Capel St Silyn was occupied by Evan Evans (abt.1821-). It therefore seems reasonable to assume that Evan was probably a relative or descendant of Thomas.
