Biography

Hannah (Evans) Chester was born in the City of London, Middlesex, England.

Hannah was born in 1835 at Bolt Court, in the City of London, Middlesex & London, England. She was the daughter of Daniel Milsom Evans and Ann Turner. Her baptism took place, along with her sister, Julia Jane (Evans) on the 27 September 1835 in the Parish Church of St. Dunstan in the West, Fleet Street, in the City of London, Middlesex & London, England^[1]. In 1841, she was living with parents Daniel Milsom (Evans) and Ann (Turner) and siblings Elisabeth, Daniel William, Samuel, Julia Jane, Thomas and Henry James (who was 1 year and 10 months old at the time). The family lived at Meeting Street National Infant School, in the seaside Town of Ramsgate, District of Thanet, in Kent, England^[2]. It isn't clear when she emigrated to Western Australia but she married Thomas Jardine on the 9 June 1855 at the Johnston Memorial Congregational Church, in Adelaide Street, in the port Town of Fremantle, Western Australia^[3]. They had one child born to them:--

1. Hannah Elizabeth Jardine Baldwin, born 18 May 1856 in Fremantle, Western Australia^[4].

However, Thomas spent most of the next two decades in Fremantle Prison (see his Profile). During that time, Hannah made a family with Frederick (Chester). Thomas initiated a suit for Divorce and it was granted on the 15 April 1879.

• DIVORCE COURT. JARDINE v. CHESTER. This was a suit for divorce, instituted by the petitioner, Thomas Jardine, of Lockeville, on the ground of his wife's adultery with the co-respondent, Mr. Chester. The evidence was taken by affidavit, and neither the respondent or the co-respondent was represented at the trial. Mr. S.H. Parker appeared for the petitioner and upon his reading the affidavits said from which it appeared the respondent and co-respondent had been cohabiting together during the past twenty years. His Honor granted the motion for a decree nisi, for divorce^[5].

With the Divorce granted, Hannah married Frederick Chester in 1880 in the port of Fremantle, Western Australia^[6]. Nine (9) children were born to the couple:--

2. Caroline Chester Luff, born 31 March 1860 in Fremantle, Western Australia^[7].
3. Frederick Chester, born 15 April 1862 in Serpentine. Bap. 29 June 1863 in Pinjarra, Western Australia^[8][9].
4. Lucy Chester, born 7 October 1865 in Serpentine, Western Australia^[10].
5. Susan Chester, born 14 January 1867 in Serpentine, Western Australia^[11].
6. Tom Chester, born 4 October 1869 in Serpentine, Western Australia; Bap. 23 December 1869 in Pinjarra, Western Australia^[12][13].
7. Elizabeth Chester, born 28 November 1874 in Serpentine. Bap. 2 June 1875 in Pinjarra, Western Australia^[14][15].
8. Emma Chester Hawden, born 24 November 1876 in Serpentine, Western Australia^[16].

Hannah passed away on the 10 July 1898 at her home, Hill Street, in Fremantle, south of the City of Perth, Western Australia, at the age of 63^[18]. Her burial takes place on the 11 July 1898 at the Skinner Street Cemetery, in the Port Town of Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia^[19][20].
