Burdette Othneil was born in 1846. He was the son of Lorenzo Shipley Eddy and Elizabeth P. Eaton. He served in the 3rd Ohio Volunteer Infantry and the 2nd Illinois Light Infantry during the Civil War. He married Sarah Day in 1874. He passed away in 1914.

The Eddy Family in America notes “He (Burdette Othneil Eddy) was in the Civil War and dishonorably discharged. He fought Indians in the West with Col. Cody (Buffalo Bill). He once rescued a white girl from burning at the stake and was decorated by Col. Cody for his daring. He finally became an attorney in San Francisco.”

“The Elmore Tribune”, (Elmore, Ohio), 11 Apr 1907, page 6 — Prominent Youngstown Man Arrested. / Youngstown, O.. April 9. - Burdette O. Eddy, prominent in secret socie- ties, a member of the G. A. R. and for 20 years court stenographer, was arrested Monday on a charge preferred by 15-year old Flossie Kenvin. The arrest is the result of the recent grand jury Investigation.
