Research Notes

Birth Year: There are inconsistencies with Trecy’s birth year. Her tombstone says it was 9 Nov 1845. However, on the 1850 census, taken 28 September 1850, she is already six. Assuming the 9 November is correct, this would make her birthday 9 Nov 1843. It is possible that with a birthday just a month away that someone said she was six and that was close enough. That would make her birthdate in 1844.

On the 1860 census she is 14 as of 21 July 1860. That would make her birthdate 1845, which is consistent with the tombstone. However, this would have made her 4 in 1850—the same age as younger brother James. However, in 1860, James is just one year younger (13) and this is consistent with other sources that say James was born in 1847, which would have made him just 3, not 4, in 1850.

On the 1870 census taken in July 1870, she is 25, which would make her birthday 1844. In the June 1880 census, she is 34, so the year is back to 1845.

With the information available, there is no way to know for certain which year it was. The document we have closest to her birthdate, the 1850 census, is probably wrong in some way, and it seems realistic to conclude that it was either 1844 or 1845.

Children: On the 1910 census she is said to have 12 children, 6 living. [7]
