Margaret (Brodie) Bell was born in Sunderland, County Durham, England.

Margaret was born to Alexander and Esther (nee Wallace) in 1833 in Sunderland, County Durham. ^[1] In 1841 the family was living at Topliff Row, North Quay, Monkwearmouth, Co. Durham. ^[2]

In 1851 Margaret was a servant in the Halliday family at Railway Wharf, Thornhills Quay, Sunderland ^[3] and in 1856 she married John Watson in Monkwearmouth. ^[4] In 1858 a son John was born. ^[5]

In 1861 John and Margaret were living at 5 Howick Street Monkwearmouth. ^[6]

John died in 1862 in Sunderland ^[7] and later that year Margaret married Thomas Bell in Newcastle. ^[8]

Thomas died in 1866 ^[9] and by 1869 Margaret was in West Ham, Essex, living with John Woodward, where son John Arthur was born.

By 1871 she was back in Sunderland living at 111 Church Street with three children ^[10]
