Henry Bell-Irving was born in Scotland.

Henry Bell-Irving birth 26 January 1856, St Mungo, Dumfries, Scotland, Father Henry Bell-Irving, Mother Willamina McBean.[1]

Henry Ogle bell-Irving, "H.O.", as he was generally known, was born at "Milkbank", the Bell-Irvings' ancestral home near Lockerbie, Scotland, the son of a merchant, and initially trained as a civil engineer, before going to Canada in 1882[3] to become a surveyor-engineer for the Canadian Pacific Railway,staying in Winnipeg, Manitoba.[4][5]

After three years he moved to the town of Granville, which would soon become the city of Vancouver. In 1890 he founded the Anglo-British Columbia Packing Company Ltd., which soon became "the world's No. 1 producer of sockeye salmon", and made the Bell-Irving's one of the wealthiest families in Vancouver. He also served as Chairman of the Board of Works, President of the St. Andrew's and Caledonian Society, and was for two years (1895 to 1897) President of the Board of Trade. [6]

Henry Ogle Bell-Irving, eldest son of the late John bell-Irving, Millbank, Dumfriesshire to Maria Isabel Del Carmen Beattie, second daughter of the late Richard Hudson Beattie of St Michael's, Torquay.[7]

At the time of the 1901 Canada Census, Henry, Isabel, Henry B., Richard, Isabel, Roderick O., Malcolm M., Anita H., Allan D., Mary McB., and Ancea Bell-Irving were listed as living in Vancouver, British Columbia[8].

Henry died in Vancouver on February 19, 1931[9] and was buried in Mountain View Cemetery[10]
