Biography

Emma E. Bell was born in August 1900. Her parents were George W. Bell (1874–1932) and Gertrude Salinda Campbell (1876–1927). In 1910 her family was living in Ralpho Township, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.[1]

She married George H. Campbell (1893-1979) on 8 March 1919 at the Methodist Episcopal parsonage in Elysburg, Pennsylvania.[2] Their children included:

  1. George William Campbell (1920–2011)
  2. Gerald M. Campbell (1923–2012)
  3. Betty Jean Campbell (1925–2020)
  4. Jack G. Campbell (1928–1992)
  5. Darwin Lee Campbell (1930–1994)
  6. Eugene M. Campbell (1932–2011)

In 1920, George (age 27) and Emma (age 19) were living and working with his parents on their farm in Cleveland Township, Columbia County.[3]

In 1930 they had 5 children and were renting a home in Locust Township, Columbia County.[4]

By 1935 they had moved back to a farm in Cleveland Township. By 1940 they had 6 children at home.[5]

In 1950 George and Emma were living with their youngest son, Eugene, on West First Street in Bloomsburg, Columbia County. In the census, George was listed as working a 45-hour week, but his occupation was not identified.[6]

Emma passed away in August 1971 two weeks after celebrating her 71st birthday and was buried in Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg, Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.[7], [8]
