I was born on February 14, 1948, at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. When I was an infant, we moved to Hanover, Illinois, and my father got a job at the Savanna, Illinois, Army Depot as a diesel mechanic. I attended public school in Hanover and graduated in 1966.
I attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and graduated with a B.A. in English in 1970. I worked at the University's graduate school before marrying Theodore (Ted) Michael Spas in 1971 and moving to Dixon, Illinois. I was employed in special education services and earned an M.S. Ed. from NIU in 1975.
Ted and I moved to Whitehall, Montana, where we worked at Boulder River School and Hospital. Our son was born in May, 1976, in Butte, Montana. In 1977, we moved to Great Falls, Montana, where I continued to work for community disability services providers.
In 1980, we moved to Helena, Montana, where I worked as a day care provider, preschool teacher, legislative proofreader, library technician and technical writer on Governor Ted Schwinden's staff.
In 1990, we moved to Missoula, Montana, where Ted was the Region V manager for developmental disability services and I was the information specialist at the Research and Training Center on Rural Disability. I retired from The University of Montana in 2010 and am thoroughly enjoying retirement - traveling, gardening, playing Scrabble, cooking, and learning more about my family's place in history.

I see that you switched fathers for Elizabeth (Weeks) Ketcham (abt.1655-aft.1732), without adding any new sources for the information. What was the reason for the change? When significant changes are made to a profile, collaboration should take place first. Also, sources are required for pre-1700 profile changes.

"Two other presumptive children are given in error for Thomas Skidmore, Senior who can be disposed of quickly. A reputed son Joseph was a name misread for John Skidmore in the Cambridge vital records. Another daughter Grace was in fact a granddaughter (a daughter of Thomas Skidmore, Junior) as close attention to the Huntington, Long Island deeds proves. They were both non-existent." Source: Thomas Skidmore (Scudamore), 1605-1684, of Westerleigh, Gloucestershire, and Fairfield, Connecticut; his ancestors, and descendants to the ninth generation", 6th ed. (pp. 5-12)
Again, on the Family Search bio for Thomas Skidmore II, Scott De Vecchio says, "Grace, the only daughter yet discovered, married John Goulding of Huntington about 1673. On 13 January 1684/5 John Finch, Senior, gave a deposition that Thomas Skidmore had given his farm at Freshpond to his son-in-law John Golding. The Gouldings were living in the town as late as 24 June 1687 when they acknowledged a deed selling the house, 22 acres of upland, and six acres of meadow where they were then living to Richard Gildersleeve of Hempstead for £60 which was paid to them in silver coins. They appear to have removed immediately after this date, perhaps to Brookhaven, Long Island. The Smith, Gildersleeve, Ketcham, Skidmore and Rogers families were among the early residents at Freshpond, and along the Bread and Cheese Hollow Road." Children: 5. i. Thomas, III. ii. Grace, born about 1655. She married John Goulding of Huntington about 1673 as noticed above. 6. iii. John.
You removed daughter Grace Skidmore Goulding from a PGM project-managed profile. What reliable source shows she was not Thomas Skidmore’s daughter? Also, when significant changes are made to a profile, collaboration should take place first. This is especially true for project-managed profiles. Would you please post a comment on Thomas Skidmore’s profile (her original father) with the source you relied upon to make this change? S Willson, PGM Project Co-Leader
Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz. As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within a project is essential
Please ensure there is a location and that the location data matches the dates of the profile. . Avoid abbreviations, add sources with citations & links for sources to support the data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources. Please review Help Sources / Source for pre1700 Profiles / Pre-1700 Cite reliable sources Thanks for joining a project, great to see your enthusiasm.
Explore Pre-1700 Projects list to find links to your research focus, whether time period, location or topic - I would suggest the UNITED_STATES look at the sub-projects for each State. Also, ENGLAND for your Yorkshire interests again look for the county pages
