Source text: BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY (transcribed Aug 2001 by Bev Bakos, Mountain View, CA, from "Alexander Beall - 1649-1744 Of Maryland, One Line of Descent in America," compiled by William Hunter McLean; Fort Worth Genealogical Society, Fort Worth, TX, 1977; copied pages of the book provided by Algy McBride, Columbus, OH) p. 28.

THADDEUS BEALL 1741-1808, Son of Josiah Beall 1715-1768; AMELIA BEALL 1747-post 1809, Daughter of Samuel Beall 1713-1777 The birth years of Thaddeus Beall, 1741, and Amelia Beall, 1747, whose name often appears as Amelia Jane Beall, are approximately supported by the number and ages of their children appearing in the 1790 Census of Guilford County, North Carolina.

  • Their marriage year of 1767, as appears in published material, is similarly supported. Thaddeus, in October 1768, was Administrator of the Estate of Josiah Beall, his father; was the "eldest son"; and had younger adult brothers signing as witnesses or sureties. Thus, the dates of birth and marriage are reasonably accurate. *Thaddeus and Amelia were born in Prince George's County, Maryland, before the formation of Frederick County in 1748. They were married in Frederick County. Records of deeds executed by Thaddeus indicate that he and Amelia lived as "Planters" in that part of Frederick County which became Montgomery County in 1776. Thus, they resided in the same general area as their parents.
  • Thaddeus Beall was a member of the Continental Army early in 1776, perhaps before. Published materials report Thaddeus as "Private in Capt. Edward Burgess' Company, 1st Lieut., Captain Major on General Resin Beall's Staff, Flying Camp, Md. troops." His military service is conclusively documented in correspondence of the Maryland Council of Safety as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Company of Captain Edward Burgess on Wednesday, July 3, 1776.
  • Thaddeus and Amelia dwelt in Montgomery County, Maryland, in 1777 and 1778, as evidenced from deeds executed by the two in those years. By November 20, 1779, a Montgomery County deed recites them to be "of Guilford County, North Carolina." p. 29.
  • William Dent, the husband of Verlinda Beall, sister of Amelia, and a Maryland associate of Thaddeus, accompanied or preceded Thaddeus to North Carolina. William Dent was the Deputy Surveyor for Guilford County, North Carolina, is so recorded with Thaddeus as his "sworn chain carrier," and was also a neighboring land owner to Thaddeus. Land Grant records of North Carolina include applications executived <sic> by Thaddeus Beall in 1779 for 6 tracts of land, granted to him in the period November 1784 to May 1787 totaling 2,000 acres.

Beall-1398 and Beall-228 appear to represent the same person because: When I created Beall-1398 earlier today, WikiTree gave me no indication of Beall-228. I would appreciate your help in merging these two. Best, Lew Griffin
