Biography

Thomas was born in Pontotoc County, Mississippi in 1849. Thomas was at one time in the stock business, the real estate industry, and was Treasurer and later Commissioner of Taylor County, Texas. In California, he was a real estate broker. Thomas married Margaret E. Anderson (no relation) in November 1872 in Memphis, Tennessee. He died in San Diego, California, and is buried in Greenwood Memorial Park, San Diego, California. His mother is also buried there. [1]

In 1850, the Anderson family lived in Pontotoc, Mississippi. The household included Benjamin D. Anderson, 40, born in Virginia, a farmer with $15,000 in real estate; his wife Sarah, 30, born in Ohio; their children, all born in Mississippi, William, 10, in school; Mary, 8, in school; Caroline, 6, in school; Benjamin, 3; and Thomas, six months of age. Also living with them was James Anderson, 24, born in Virginia (uncertain relationship).[2]

In 1860, the Anderson family lived on their plantation in Pontotoc, Mississippi. The household included Benjamin D. Anderson, 47, born in Virginia, a planter, with $107,000 in real estate and $30,000 in personal estate; his six children, all born in Mississippi, William L., 20, a student; May (Mary) E., 18; Caroline J., 16; Benji D., 13; Thomas O., 10; and Harriet A., 5.[3]

In 1920, Thomas, 69, owned their home at 3265 Brant, San Diego, California, without a mortgage. Thomas was born in Mississippi; his father was b. VA; and his mother was b. Ohio. His wife Margaret E., 66, was born in Tennessee; her father was b. NC; and her mother was b. SC. Also living with them was a cousin, Maria F. Anderson, 40, b. TN; father b. NC; mother b. SC. All members of the household could read and write.[4]
