Biography

Lucy Ann Allen was born 1806-1808 in Virginia. Her parents may have been James Anderson Allen and Elizabeth Jeter. Her brother may have been Benjamin Anderson Allen b 20 Mar 1811. More work needed to prove or disprove.

She married Joseph S Palmore on 8 July 1826 in Cumberland County, Virginia.[1]

The couple had at least two children, sons William James and Charles Benjamin.

In the 1840 Cumberland Co, VA census, Joseph and wife Lucy are living with their two sons and 13 slaves.[2]

16 Dec 1846, Lucy's husband Joseph dies and is buried in the Allen Cemetery.[3]

In the 1850 census, Lucy is a widow, living with her two sons in Cumberland County, VA.[4]

In 1859, Lucy Palmore, born in Cumberland City, Virginia in 1802, and daughter of J and Elizabeth Allen, married widower Josiah Gauldin in Cumberland County.[5][6]

In 1860, 1870, and 1880, the couple lived in Miami, Missouri.[7][8][9]

Lucy's whereabouts after 1880 are unknown. She passed away between the 1880 US Census and the death of Josiah, who passed away a widow on 29 Sep 1884 in Marshall, Missouri.[10] Josiah was buried with his first wife in Fairville Cemetery (Fairville, Missouri); Lucy was not buried with them.[11]
